The Nova Catholic Church

In the shadowed corridors of the Nova Roma, whispered rumors speak of the Holy Father, the unseen Pontiff who has ruled the Church for a thousand years. No living soul has seen his true face. He appears only within the towering golden mech-suit known as the Solar Throne, its visored helm forever sealed. Some claim the suit is not armor but a life-sustaining sarcophagus, keeping his ancient, DNA-augmented flesh from unraveling. Others say he practices the forbidden Void Vogi arts — techniques that twist the soul and body beyond mortal limits.
The Church worships Sol the Father, the True Sol, the blazing heart at the center of the galaxy. The star humans once called Sol — the Sun of lost Earth — is revered only as the Avatar, the bright messenger and living image of the greater Father. To the faithful, humanity was fashioned in Sol’s radiant image, and every soul carries a spark of that divine fire.
At the heart of the faith lies sacrifice. Blood must be offered so that light may endure. In grand cathedrals aboard vast orbital temples, or in hidden shrines deep within asteroid holds, the faithful perform the Offering of Flame and Flesh. Chosen vessels — willing or condemned — are presented before the altar. Their life essence is ritually released through precise cuts, burning incense, and solar mirrors that focus starlight into searing beams. The greater the offering, the brighter Sol’s favor is said to shine upon the congregation. High feasts end with the sharing of sanctified ashes, believed to carry the strength of the sacrificed into the living.

Opposing the holy order is the Adversary — a real and terrible entity said to drift through the dark between stars. It is a being of black matter and anti-matter, a devouring mind that seeks to unravel Sol’s perfect design. Where Sol brings order, light, and creation, the Adversary spreads entropy, corruption, and the slow death of all things. Many voidfarers claim to have felt its presence during long jumps — a cold pressure against the hull, a whispering static on comms, a sudden failure of systems that should not fail.
Void Yogi Belief: The Adversary is the remnant intelligence of a great being that experimented with reptilian and human DNA approximately 500,000 years ago.
Within the Church exists a zealous sect known as the Seekers of Kobol. These hard-core monks and inquisitors wear austere black-and-gold armor and travel the Cradle in stripped-down scout vessels. They believe the true Holy Spirit — the living breath of Sol — dwells near the galactic core. Their sacred mission is to find the lost realm of Kobol, said to lie hidden among the dense stars and ancient ruins close to the galactic center. They hunt forbidden charts, interrogate captured navigators, and launch dangerous expeditions into uncharted regions, convinced that only by reaching Kobol can humanity be purified and the Adversary’s shadow finally banished.
The Church blends solemn hierarchy, grand processions, and layered heavens with the eternal demand for sacrifice and the promise of multiple realms of glory for the faithful. To the outside world it appears as a powerful, mysterious institution — part spiritual authority, part political force, and always watching for signs of the Adversary’s hand in the Void.
